2. In short
CodeBeep needs no account and has no server of its own. Your codes and everything you add to them are stored in the app on your iPhone and are not sent to us. The app contains no ads, no analytics or tracking tools and no advertising identifiers.
3. What the app stores on your iPhone
- The codes themselves (content and code type) and the names you give them.
- For one-time codes: the parcel contents, merchant, carrier and deadline, if you enter them.
- For linked places: the coordinates and the place's label.
- App settings.
This data lives in the app's storage and is protected while the iPhone is locked. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud or a computer, iOS may include this data in that backup; Apple's or your computer's terms apply to those backups. In “Data & Backup” you can export your codes to a file yourself. Where you save or share that file is up to you.
Deleting a code or the app removes the data from the app. Copies in device backups or exported files are not affected.
4. Camera and photos
The camera is used only while you scan a code. The camera image is analysed on the iPhone and is neither stored nor transmitted. When you take a code from a photo, you pick the image in the iOS photo picker. The app receives only that one image, reads the code from it and does not keep the image.
5. Location (optional)
The app uses your location only if you link a code to a place. It then compares your location with your linked places on the iPhone, to show the matching code and to notify you when you arrive. It uses iOS Location Services for this, including the system's region monitoring if you allow “Always”. The app does not send your location to us and does not keep a location history. Without a linked place, no location is requested. You can change this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
6. Place search and map (Apple Maps)
When you choose a place by search or on the map, the app uses Apple's map service (MapKit). Your search text and, where available, an approximate search area are sent to Apple, and map tiles are loaded from Apple. Apple is responsible for this processing; see Apple's privacy policy. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the feature you asked for).
7. Notifications
Deadline reminders and arrival notifications are scheduled as local notifications on the iPhone. There is no push server, and no data is sent to us for this.
8. App Store
The app is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple processes data for downloads, purchases and updates under its own responsibility. If you allow sharing crash and usage data with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple provides us with anonymised crash reports and statistics that do not identify anyone.
9. This website
This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads no third-party fonts or scripts. It is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you visit it, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not analyse this data ourselves. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (secure and reliable operation of the website). Because Cloudflare is based in the USA, data may be transferred there. The basis is the adequacy decision for the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, where Cloudflare is certified, and standard contractual clauses. More in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
10. Contacting us by email
If you write to us, we process your email address and message to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). We delete the correspondence once it's resolved and no retention obligations apply.
11. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). Because the app's data stays on your iPhone, you can view, change, export and delete it there yourself. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of Baden-Württemberg.
12. Changes
If the app or the law changes, we'll update this policy. The version published here applies.
